…The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte!
When Helen Huntingdon decides to leave her brutish, drunkard husband, she is not only flouting convention but also going against the laws of the land.
Fleeing with her small son, she determines to lead an independent existence and takes on the tenancy of Wildfell Hall. Self-possessed, surrounded by secrecy, it is not long before Helen finds herself the victim of local slander.
Believe it or not, after having this book on my shelf for nearly nine years, I am only just reading the blurb!! I didn’t even realise that until now… hmmm…
Anyway, I am looking forward to reading this book simply because it is by Anne of the Bronte sisters. Agnes Grey was a gentle read, almost like have a long tete-a-tete over cups of tea and short cake with the author. I wonder what this book will be like.
None of the books I chose for my list were chunksters. But, as this one is a Penguin Popular Classic with its tiny print and cramped font, I have 377 pages to go through by the end of January, 2019.
If I’m a good girl, maybe I’ll get to have finished it before Christmas is come gone!
